Nursing Schools in Connecticut
The State of Connecticut may be one of the smallest states in the U.S. but it ranks 4th for the largest population density with 723 people per square mile. That is a lot of people when put into perspective, all of whom require preventative care, emergent care, and even long term healthcare. It takes a great deal of healthcare workers to manage that large a population, and like most states Connecticut is facing a nursing shortage.
The population of Connecticut, though already vastly populated, is expect to grow another 6% between 2000 and 2020, and the number of people over the age of 65 is expected to increase by another 25%. These increases will continue to stress an already over stretched healthcare network. The needed number of nurses, doctors, and all other healthcare providers continues to increase, but the number of graduates in these fields is not growing fast enough to support the needs of the medical community.
Today’s graduates can expect to earn competitive wages and enter a career field that provides many job opportunities and job security even when other careers are affected by economic depression. In 2009 the mean hourly wage of an RN in Connecticut was $34.58, while a LPN/LVN was earning $25.15 per hour. Graduates can expect a comfortable lifestyle for the long-term when they chose nursing as a career.
