Nursing Schools in Indiana
The State of Indiana is the home to more than 6 million residents. In 2000, there were only 46,000 practicing RN’s in the state, this means there were less than 760 RN’s per 100,000 people living in the state. Indiana still only ranks 12th for RN’s to resident ratios in the U.S. While this may seem adequate in comparison to other states, it still leaves a major shortage of nurses within the state. Indiana’s population of persons over the age of 65 is also expected to increase by 46% between the year 2000 and 2020, adding to the nursing shortage crisis.
The current economic downfall has affected many people and professions. Nurses have felt little of that affect. Regardless of other economic trends, people will always be in need of healthcare services. With the new healthcare laws in place, as everyone obtains health insurance more and more people will pursue medical care more often adding the need for even more nurses. Nursing graduates can expect to find many positions to choose from with competitive wages and benefits. Because nurses will always be in demand, you can also expect a career that will last for a lifetime.
Registered Nurses in Indiana made a mean hourly wage of $27.84 while LPN/LVN’s earned $18.23. Wages of that stature can insure the nursing graduate a comfortable lifestyle in a job they can count on. Without more people joining the career of nursing, our country will face a real crisis, so consider Nursing as a new career.
