The Maine State Nurses Association is a very active part of nursing within the state. They continue to fight for the rights of nurses and patients alike. In May 2010, they joined with the National Nurses United Staff Nurse Assembly and adopted a national standard that addresses patient care standards, nurses and the nursing profession.
Some of the standards they adopted included nursing to patient ratios and contractual language to insure those ratios are adhered to by medical providers, a ban on mandatory overtime, and improved retirements based on pension plans. The primary goal of any nurse is to insure patient health and safety and Maine stands behind its nurses.
