Rhode Island has it right. Seeing the imperative need for future nursing students the state has begun a new charter school hoping to open its doors by the year 2011; geared to implement classes for nursing to students through tenth and twelfth grade. The state projects that by the year 2015 there will be a shortage of 6000 nurses. The state is doing all it can to reduce the impact this shortage will have on communities.
Rhode Island currently has more jobs openings than it has qualified nurses to fill those jobs. The 2009 mean hourly wage for an RN was $33.09 per hour, while LPN/LVN’s mean hourly wage was $24.04. Both are above the national average.
