Don't wait any longer to take the next step towards a rewarding career with a BSN degree.

Bachelor Degrees in Nursing (BSN)

The role of a nurse is one in which you can enjoy a career which is both rewarding and demanding. There is currently a drastic shortage of qualified nurses in this country and as the population ages this shortage is forecast to worsen. This means that qualified nurses will be increasingly in demand and this also means that there has never been a better time to get a Bachelors degree in nursing.

This degree will equip you with the skills that you will need for a successful career in nursing. It also provides a very strong base for further qualifications such as Master degrees and Doctorate level degrees.

What to Expect From a BSN Program

The BSN degree generally takes four years, the first two of which will be general education and the remaining two on specific nursing education subjects and the principles of nursing. A number of learning institutions offer online Bachelor degree programs and these will require you to complete the majority of study online with specific clinical training at a faculty near your home.

Types of BSN Degrees

There are a number of ways of gaining the qualification of BSN (Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing) and the basic BSN is the pre-requisite qualification for becoming a professional nurse and also the entry requirement for advanced nursing degrees.

Another route to the qualification is a LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) to BSN program and these provide a route to the BSN for those who already hold nursing qualifications. Similarly it is possible to take a RN (Registered Nurse) to BSN program. If you are a registered nurse and you hold an associates degree or diploma then this program also provides a route to the BSN. It is primarily aimed at working nurses and as such they generally offer very flexible schedules to allow the busy nurse to fit in a course of study.

If you have a degree in another subject apart from nursing then you can take a second degree BSN program. This type of qualification suits adults who are looking to switch careers and generally offer learning credits for the nursing BSN such that the qualification can be completed in two years rather than four. This type of degree can also be taken as an accelerated degree and it is possible to complete the nursing studies in 12-20 months.

The Rewards of a BSN

Pay for holders of the BSN varies according to the experience you have as a nurse. For those with 1-4 years experience you can expect between $21 and $30 per hour whilst those with between 5 and 9 years experience can expect between $25 and $35 per hour. If you are one of those determined individuals with more than 10 years experience in nursing then the pay can exceed $35 in the largest hospitals and institutions.

Of course the biggest reward for the qualified nurse are a career in which you can really make a difference to the lives of others, and who else can really say this and mean it?
