About Grants, Loans, and Scholarships

College grants are free and easily applied for! The hardest part about applying for a grant is knowing exactly where to look for them. Many people do not realize that grants are readily available and are a great way to help supplement your education. Because of nursing shortages in the nation over the past years and projected future shortages, many grants have been formulated to revitalize the nursing industry by making it more affordable for an LPN to achieve their RN degree.

There are government grants available to help finance an LPN that has an interest in going back to school and furthering their education. The Federal Pell Grant is the best and first place you should start when looking to finance your college education. State Grants are also available for college students. Pell Grants and State Grants can be easily applied for by completing a FAFSA form each year prior to the application deadline. You can be eligible for a Pell grant if you are an undergrad student, regardless of your chosen major. Pell and State Grants do not have to be repaid as long as the student meets the educational requirements stipulated. These grants could provide you with nearly all of the funds needed to complete your LPN to RN online.

Seeking help from the private sector

Contacting private organizations for further educational funding is also a good idea. Whether you are an LPN or RN there are grants suited to meet your needs. Your future nursing goals are easily attainable with the help of organizations and programs whose sole purpose is to decrease the nursing shortage we are experiencing now. Some of the following programs are great resources when seeking financial aid.

More ways for nurses to pay for college

Nurses also have grants available to them that are specifically designed for nursing students. The Loan Repayment or Forgiveness Program is offered by the Federal government. It works in much the same way as a grant, but is not given until after college is over. You can receive this grant if you agree to work for a high-need facility for a specified number of years. The grant can effectively pay up to 85% of your educational loans.

Another excellent way to receive financing for your nursing education can come from your employer. If you are an LPN or RN looking to further your education, many employers will finance your degree if you consent to remain in their employ for a certain number of years after your education is complete. Taking advantage of this employer based opportunity is a great way to enter into an LPN to RN program at no cost to you. Taking control of your future is always the right decision.
